A fantastic six-wicket haul from Jebal 'Stiffy' Williams has put the North Richmond Jets in a powerful position after the first day of their round 6 HDCA clash with Glossodia at McMahons Park on Saturday.
Williams claimed 6/23 off 16 overs to rip through the Gladiators' batting rolling them for 87 before the Jets cruised to 0/79 in reply at stumps, needing just nine more runs for first innings points.
Acting captain Rod 'Quasi' Bayne won the toss and elected to field, and after Stiffy grabbed an early wicket, Glossodia moved slowly but surely to 1/31 in the second session before Matty 'Ginger' Beggs made a crucial double breakthrough.
Ginger trapped the opening batsmen Eather lbw and then went through the defences of Glossodia key bat Jones to make it 3/39 before their captain Reg Milner launched a fightback.
With support from a patient Dickson, they took the score to 3/65, when Stiffy picked up Dickson for his second wicket and one run later Terry 'Top Cat' Conoulty removed Reggie for a well made 47 to set the wheels in motion.
Stiffy proceeded to destroy the remainder of the batting with four more quick wickets, and when Tony 'Scorpio' Joyce knocked over the No.11 Garbutt with just his third ball, Glossodia had lost 7/22 to be all out for 87.
Apart from Stiffy's 6/23, Ginger finished with 2/28 off 10, Top Cat had 1/20 off six and Scorpio's wicket came without conceding a run.
After a run of bad luck, 15yo Nick 'Austin' Powers got himself and the Jets off to a great start, mixing determination with hard work, and his confidence rose with every over as he compiled an impressive unbeaten 42.
The support came from Top Cat, who was unbeaten on 22 at the close as North Richmond finished the day on 0/79 off 22 overs.

OTHER JETS ON THE FIELD
Scott 'Cindy' Braid's amazing purple patch of form continued when he smashed his second century in as many weeks for Glossodia's sixth grade against RAAF at Royal Glossodia on Saturday.
Cindy made a stunning 105 to follow on from his 136no against North Richmond last week to lead his team to 220 against the Airmen.
Daniel 'Daffy' Harding was the second top scorer with 22, while fellow Jets Dean 'Deano' Braid made 11, Adam Braid six and Stephen 'China' Chase four.
In a helter skelter reply, RAAF is in all sorts of trouble at 6/54 off 12 overs after Cindy backed up his ton with 3/10 off five overs and China took 3/29. Daffy bowled one over for 11, while Deano took two catches and China one.
Grant Hoffman made 27no as RAAF second grade compiled 168 against Glossodia at RAAF. Hoff has 0/19 off two overs in Glossodia's reply of 4/115. Brock Gibson didn't play day one but will sub into the team for the second day.
Steve 'Psycho' Staszek produced a late blast to put North Richmond third grade back into its match against Maroota at Turnbull Oval. Psycho made 10 as Northo was bundled out for 127, but hit back with three quick wickets leave the Blues 3/25 at stumps.
Seb Goldrick top scored with 26, but Pitt Town fourth grade was bundled out for only 98 by North Richmond at Brinsley Park. Seb is yet to bowl in Northo's reply of 3/45, but has taken a catch.
Daniel Langford's Hawkesbury second grade team made an impressive 9/313 against Randwick-Petersham at Owen Earle Oval. Lenny's score has not been recorded by the Hawks, suggesting it was less than 25.
Andrew Cash made 10 as Hawkesbury fourth grade was bowled out for just 74 by the Randy-Petes at Bensons 2. He took 0/33 off four as Randwick made 8dec/190 in reply before Hawkesbury reached 0/26 in its second innings.
Matt Brophy smashed an unbeaten 50 off just 48 balls, including six fours and three sixes (why bother running Oyster?) for Seven Hills-Toongabbie RSL in the Parramatta Association's B1 competition. Sevo finished on an imposing 290 on day one against Guildford Hotel at Merrylands Park.
