That has got to be the best performance of the year! The Blues once again were short of numbers so we started the first quarter with 15 against their 18 players. It was hailing and the wind was freezing so good on you guys who showed up and got out there.
We had the wind in the first quarter and it was probalby worth 3-4 goals and being so undermanned we were down 4 goals to 1 at quarter time. So didn't capitalize on the wind and also missed quite a few scoring shots.
Q2 saw Angry arrive and now it was 16 players vs 18 players and he sparked a lift and kicked a great running goal using the outside of his riht foot as he doesnt like to use the left. The Blues were right on top while the Bulldogs had the wind and we both kicked 2 goals with the blues missing more shots from close range and going into the half with more scoring opportunities. The 5 man backline of Chinga, Zac, Chins, Harvey and Dan had done suprisingly well and the standout performer was Dicko in his first full game for the year. His fitness was amazing so well done JD on training him hard all year for NZ duties. Though he played in the middle he was all over the ground but worked especially hard getting back in defence and taking goal saving marks time and again.
Q3 saw the Blues really take it to the bulldogs and 3 goals to 1 saw us go into 3 quarter time level on points with them. Some of the boys were getting tired by now but every one looked fired up at the final break and their was the belief we could take this one out. Unfortunately it wasn't to be as we were still outnumbered by 2 players and the wind was still strong. 2 Costly 50 m penalties resulted in Bulldogs goals and they kicked 3 late goals to seal a win that was by no means comfortable. Blues finally going down by 28 points but only down by 8 with about 10 minutes to go.
Was great to have a strong center 4 this week with Ross rucking all day, Johnie, Jared and Dicko running all day out of the middle. Tom was great on the wing and hope his arm is ok after a heavy collision in Q4. Angry was superb when he came on and Bradley was a key target up forward. 2 new first gamers Jay and Cam came down and got a fair bit of ball. Good to see one of last years recruits Hamish back for only his second run of the year.
If we can get a decent showing this week and JD and Sam will be back we can give the Eagles a tough contest next Satruday 15th. That is the late game at 2:30 pm
Make a real efort to get to training this week at Westminster park 6pm. 3 games left for the season and we will win at least one of these!!
