On a picture perfect day and in front of the life members Panton Hill took on Parkside in the last home and away game of the year. With both sides wanting to go all the way this year it was always going to be a great contest. And we weren’t let down. Right from the opening bounce the standard of football was very high and both sides were intent on making the ball their number one objective. It was the Hills who scored first and had much of the play, Brendon O’Connor was good early as was Daniel Keen and Adam Anderson was getting his hands on the footy. Although the Hills had most of the play they were wasteful in front of goal and trailed by 3 points at ¼ time. The 2nd quarter started well for the Hills kicking the first goal again. They started to play long and direct football and were able to break the game open. Ben Garrard had moved forward and Nathan Brundell was getting on top down back whilst Ricky Woods was also causing headaches for Parkside. The Hills went in at half time with the lead. The 3rd quarter was the worst for the day for the Hills, they stopped running and helping out in defence and found themselves being second to the footy. Parkside started to get some confidence and hit the lead and took a slender lead into the ¾ time break. The Hills were told that they’d stopped doing all the things that got them in front, and they thought that things would just happen, but they were told you must make them happen. To their credit the Panton Hill boys came out breathing fire in the last and started to win the football again. Although dominating for most of the quarter the Hills didn’t put Parkside away and so it made for quite a tense and nervous last 5 minutes of play, but in the end the Hills were able to finish on top and ran out 13 point winners. The Redbacks look forward to taking on St. Marys in the first final next week. Go Hills!!!
