As raging favourites for the wooden spoon at the beginning of the year, the team has overcome a horror run of injuries to top class players to tackle Morningside in next Sundays elimination final. The reserve grade will also play an elimination final but will do so on Sunday against Mt Gravatt at Redlands at 11am.
Ther Ressies went down to Mt Gravatt today by just three points with no bench for the final quarter. They will no doubt fancy themselves once they get to a nutral oval and will have a full list to pick from.
With all to play for today, the Hornets seniors were in a win at all cost situationand and were up against NEAFL heavyweights Mt Gravatt. With the Vultures having nothing but pride to play for after consolidating their spot in second position, the hornets were more desperate and had they kicked straight in the first term would have had a substantial lead. But they went into quarter time with a slender lead but maintained their advantage after a solid performance into the wind during the second term.
Adam Hughes was brilliant up forward and was giving the Vultures plenty to think about. Reece Toye and Ryan Thomson were getting plenty of the ball but it was the tackling pressure and determination from all over the ground that was keeping the Hornets in front.
With premiership quarter pending the Hornets needed to lift and after after giving up the first goal of the term. They then slammed on the next 8 goals to put the game out of reach for the Vultures and in doins so booked themselves their maiden finals appearance.
They will go into the game next week full of confidence after beating Morningside at the same venue earlier in the season. There is apossibility of the return of Shir and Steve Brittain from injury which would give the team a massive boost.
