U15 Div 1 Semi Final Preview
An unbeaten season will count for nothing as the Knights go into battle against Hampton this Sunday 11 am at Toorak Park, Ormond. Hampton are clearly the second best team in the competition and although the Golds have beaten them three times this season the largest winning margin has been only 28 points.
Coaches Horne and Kenyon will be playing up the fact that the Hampton team has about every 2nd player in the MSJFL representative team (must be a coincidence that the Hampton coach is involved in the selection process) and will be urging our boys to play to their committed best. The Knights clearly have the best forward lines and back lines in the competition and the midfield will not be taking a back seat to anyone.
To further add to the big game flavour, Carter Dickinson, Luke Daggian, Blake Fletcher and Edward Cheesman will all be playing in their 100th game this Sunday.
In a season of many highlights here are some of them:
- Undefeated with 15 wins, top of the ladder, a percentage of 402%, over 200% better then the second placed team.
- Highest winning margin - 153 points rd 14 v Ajax.
- Smallest winning margin -17 points rd 1 v Hampton.
- Nine times this season the Golds have kicked over 100 points in a game.
- Ten times this season the Golds have held the opposition to 4 goals or less in a game.
- Ten times this season the Golds have won by over 10 goals.
- Average score Golds per game 112 points (18 goals) and opposition 28 points (5 goals).
- Average winning margin 85 points (over 14 goals).
- In the MSJFL not only did we have the leading goal kicker in the comp with Corey Bruinstroop at 43 goals but we had 6 of the leading 22 goal kickers in the competition with Ed Vickers-Willis, Mitch Bevan, Charlie Smith, Gus Borthwick and Willie Paine.
- If there was the equivalent stat for defence we would have had 6 players in the top 10.
BUT if we don't win the finals campaign it will just be some interesting stats.
Believe it or not, most teams that finish on top of division 1 comps in the MSJFL do not win their Grand Final. In fact we think that last year all the teams that finished on top of their Div 1 ladders from U14 to U17 in MSJFL did not end up premiers.
So a big congratulations to all the boys on the season so far, best of luck for the finals and hoping they play all finals games with the commitment that the coaches have asked them for.
