SENIORS
Last week the Hills took on Reservoir in what was an elimination final of sorts. The winner was all but guaranteed a spot in the finals with the loser to miss the finals action. It was Reservoir who started the better kicking 6 goals to 1 in the opening quarter. The Hills looked flat and were continually second to the ball. Reservoir had their running game going and looked dangerous. At quarter time the hills were asked to get busy, they had to make things happen if they wanted to get back into the game and make things happen they did. Tristan Kreymborg got going as did Will Box to ensure the Hills got first use out of the middle. Jayson Darcy-Molloy was linking up well on the wing and Nathan Brundell and Ryan Byrnes were causing trouble up forward. The Hills piled on 8.9 to Reservoirs no score to end up taking the lead into half time. With a major swing in momentum the Hills were confident they could overrun Reservoir in the second half. The third was a great contest with both sides playing their hearts out. Ricky Woods managed to kick another goal for the quarter to continue his good form from the first half and Jack Ryan and Simon Gunn provided plenty more run from the back line. Tristan Kreymborg took a great mark running back with the flight of the ball and quickly played on and slotted his first from 40m out on the run to really pump up his teammates. As the ¾ time siren sounded the Hills had increased their lead and were looking the stronger. At the huddle the Hills were told they must finish this game off, 30 more minutes of hard work was going to see them with a just reward. Reservoir came out in the last knowing their season was on the line and kicked the first two goals to put some life back into the game. The Redbacks however were able to lift again and Ricky Woods again goaled as did Jayson Darcy-Molloy. Jake McKenzie was working hard in the packs as was Brett Thorn, Ben Garrard was holding down centre half back and the Hills ended up running out 48 point winners. It was a super effort after quarter time and one that should give the boys confidence in going forward. The Redbacks can’t wait for next week against Parkside in what should be a super game. Go Hills!!!
RESERVES
On Saturday the Redbacks took on the second placed Reservoir and top spot and bragging rights were on the line leading into the finals in two weeks time. The game was an even encounter until the Redbacks were able to break free in the last quarter and win by four goals. John Garrard again kicked six goals and proved to be handful up forward, Brett Voss was marking everything as the lead up target in the forward line and Dylan Collins was making his presence felt. The backline lead by Jack LeGassick and Ty Dummett was well supported by Lucas Brass and Matthew Layt played his best game for the season from a wing, he was instrumental in the 3rd quarter providing much needed run and second efforts when the game was on the line. Chris Samson in the ruck got every tap out but our midfielders need to improve to make sure we utilise his capabilities of providing us with the first use of the ball on most occasions. It was a great win by Panton Hill who has now cemented top spot for 2011. Our mind now moves onto Parkside next week and the challenge that awaits us in next week when the finals begin. Better players on the day were John Garrard, Chris Sansom, Matthew Layt, David Walton and Brett Voss.
