The Tweed Coast Tigers sent an ominous warning to the Summerland AFL League on Saturday with a 11 goal belting of the Lismore Swans in Lismore.
In the final round of the regular home and away season the Tigers were at full strength for the first time this season and produced a dominate display heading into the finals.
The highlight for the day was Tigers and League leading goal kicker Ash Gemmill bagging the 3 goals he required to reach 50 for the home and away season finishing with a classic on the run snap with the last kick of the game.
The Swans turned up to play and fancied their chances against the Tigers rolling out their strongest team, however they could not match the Tigers intensity and attack at the football and after taking a 2 goal lead into the first break it was all Tigers from then on leading by 4 goals at half time, 8 goals at 3 quarter time and 11 goals at the final siren.
In a solid effort by all Tigers it was a dominate performance by John Bevan in the middle that provided the catalyst for 30 scoring shots for the Tigers. The goals were shared amongst the forwards with Ben Kelly, Lachlan Earl, John Cassidy, Jacob Eldridge, Liam Spence and Shane Peddie all kicking 2 majors. Josh Bones return saw him bag 3 goals in a classy display.
The Tigers backline has been performing all season and didn’t disappoint yesterday combining well to stifle the Lismore attack and provide plenty of running of the half back line.
The only sour note for the Tigers, were a couple of serious injuries to backmen Sam Edwards (Ankle) and Anthony Pope (Cheek Bone) both have had scans and whilst Sam's scan has shown major ligament damage (no break), Pope is likely to miss the rest of the season with confirmed mulitple facial fractures recieved from a head clash during the first quarter of Saturdays match.
The Tigers now have a week off to focus on their Major Semi Final to be played at Tigerland Pottsville on the 20th August.
