Junior Colts: Had the journey down to Robe this week on a beautiful day for footy. Came up against a very determined Robe side. Our boys started off well in the first quarter, but lacked the determination and desperation that they showed last week against the Burr, especially in the second and third quarters. Apart from that, and a few changes made in the last quarter, turned things around and we came home with a win. Once again Tim Sullivan showed dominance in the ruck and also went forward and kicked three goals. Sam Zeitz again showed what a work horse he is, being everywhere all over the ground. Down back, Liam Kemp played a great game, along with Will Rolph. Lockie Tilley also had a great game on the ball. Well done boys. Best players: Tim Sullivan, Liam Kemp, Sam Zeitz, Lockie Tilley, Kyall McClean. Special mentions – Tom Zeitz and Jarred Feast.
Senior Colts: For the first time this year we managed to select pretty much our full side. It was evident that the boys hadn’t played much footy together, and there are a few things to iron out at training. Full credit to Robe who really took up the challenge and maintained pressure throughout the match. As the game progressed, there were some pleasing signs, and it will be great to test ourselves again against a quality side in Tantanoola this week. Rolphy (Ben) continues to back up with consistent footy and Brad Chant and Finna (Justin Finnigan) also played well in the second half. Jordan Stark, Riley Chant and Tom Sullivan displayed their football nous and toughness at the football. Let’s maintain the work rate and strive for improvement over the next few weeks with finals just around the corner.
B Grade: Disappointing loss against Robe this Saturday. It shouldn’t take the coach to go off his head before everyone switches on and has a go. Maybe he should go off before the game! Good effort in the last quarter. We came back hard but didn’t quite get there. Everyone needs to come out on Tuesday and Thursday and “No Excuse” training is what will make your game. Cyril (Adam Lewis), played well down back, better than he does forward, Dawey (Jason) ran all day as usual, Fincky (Scott) did well in the ruck with Goody (Brendan) close by. The senior colts in Mal (Lewis) and James (Feast) stepped up and showed everyone how to play. Get out on the track boys and have a win against Tant! Regards, BRETT LEWIS.
A Grade: After a great first half where we were four goals in front, we had had a lapse in the third quarter giving away 11 goals which the made it a very hard task pegging back Robe. If we are to overcome one of the two top sides in the next couple of months we need to start playing 4 quarters of football and remove these 15 -20 min lapses that cost us dearly against quality opposition. The best players were Mick Edwards who just ran all day and tired a very good opponent. Benny Odine was again solid as ever, never giving up and putting his body on the line time and time again. Brodes (Murdoch) kicked 5 and gave us a real focal point up forward. Poves (Rohan), Trev (Adam Taylor), Matt Fox all played their roles well.
