Frankston, sitting top of the ladder took on third placed Red Hill in what was expected to be a closely fought contest at the Showgrounds. However Frankston jumped Red Hill early and kicked 4 quick goals before Red Hill could even get the ball into their forward half.
Red Hill finally settled and in the last 10 minutes of the quarter each side kicked one goal. At quarter time the margin was 30 points, although it could have been a lot higher as Frankston kicked 5 goals 6 to Red Hills 1 straight goal.
Red Hill started to work their way into the game early in the second. They couldn’t make the most of their early dominance as they managed just the one goal to Frankstons two. Frankston extended their lead from 30 points to 38 points at the end of the first half. It was only Frankstons in accurate kicking that was keeping Red Hill in the game. Had they kicked straighter, Frankston could have been a further 3 or 4 goals in front.
Frankston came out after half time to finally put Red Hill out of the game. They kicked 8.8 in the second half and held Red Hill to 2.2. In a match that didn’t quite reach any great heights, Frankston still came away with a big 80 point win.

Reserves
The Showgrounds haven’t been a happy hunting ground for the reserves in recent years. This week they arrived determined to get the better of Red Hill, despite where they were placed on the ladder, Frankston would be expecting to do it tough against Red Hill.
After a strong warm up Frankston came out and controlled the ball inside their forward 50 for the first 2 or 3 minutes yet they couldn’t put any majors on the board before Red Hill finally got their hands on the ball and slotted the first of the game from an impossible angle. This didn’t deter Frankston though, they responded quickly and finished with 5 goals in a row to end the first term 24 points up.
Frankston had started in a similar fashion against Hastings before allowing them to get back into the game in the second term. It was important for Frankston not to get complacent and allow early goals to Red Hill. Frankston started well however a yellow card to Corey Batt meant that Frankston had only 17 players for the last half of the quarter. Frankston fought out the last 10 minutes of the quarter and even extended their lead out to 40 points by the end of the first half.
Frankston were well on top of the contest at half time and a big win wasn’t out of the question. Red Hill hadn’t gone in for a hard ball all day and Frankston really wanted to continue their dominance for the remaining 2 quarters. Frankston continued to work hard and run hard each way, although they could only manage 2 goals for the quarter they still outscored Red Hill and at 3 quarter time the margin had extended out to 46 points.
Frankston again dominated during the last quarter as they wrapped a nice 4 quarter effort with a 61 point lead. It could have been a lot more had Red Hill not got a few easy goals throughout the game.
Ryan Lia was great up forward, kicking 5 majors. David Mullavey was the only other multiple goal kicker with 4. C.Batt, J.Logan-Palser, M.Webber, G.Bennie and T.Burke each kicked 1.
Coach Reints was great in his return from the seniors, also among the best for Frankston were D.Myers, R.Lia, D.Mullavey, T.Burke and S. White.
