Seniors
In a high standard top 4 clash at Parkdale, Whitefriars relinquished 2nd place on the ladder with a 25 point loss. Parkdale took the early initiative and got off to a flyer with the first 2 goals coming very early. Their delivery around the ground and into their forward line gave them the ascendancy before the Friars fought back late in the quarter with a goal to Adam Woods. Whitefriars worked back into the game after quarter time with Rowan Mattinson and Emille Adballah taking control on the ball to draw close, but the dominance of Parkdale’s Oakley in the forward line was the difference as they were able to counter and hold a 20 point margin at the main break.
The Friars produced a resurgent 3rd quarter by running aggressively and applying much more pressure all over the ground. The hard work and pace of Danny Hogan and Jarrod Scannell was instrumental in putting the clamps on Parkdale’s dominance as Whitefriars drew within a goal at the last change to prepare for a last quarter onslaught. With the captain, Simon Brosolo starting to have greater influence the players had lifted their work rate to have a sniff of victory. However Parkdale responded well by reasserting their authority and kicked away while keeping the Friars goalless. Brendan Stafford kept working hard in the midfield for the Friars but Parkdale’s forward line dominance was the difference between the teams.

Reserves
The up and down performances of the Reserves continued with a hard fought 3 point win over the 3rd placed Parkdale. In a low scoring game the defences were on top with the Friars well served by the strong bodies of Dan Tucker, Luke Kaldor and Anthony Gibbs. Justin Kenez and Dylan Fletcher provided the run to give the Friars enough scoring opportunities. Whitefriars stand two games out of the top 4 with all of the remaining games very winnable to have a chance of pinching a finals spot.

Under 19’s
In a game Whitefriars were expected to win easily Emmaus St. Leo’s displayed great tenacity to keep the challenge up all day. The Friar boys were a bit off their game and complacency may have been a factor. While the game was not a cracker in terms of skill, it was a tight contest in which the class of Dave Blewonski, the desperation of Tom Murphy, and the creativeness of Michael Nitas (4 goasl) got the Friars over the line by 5 points.

Thirds
Playing on the smaller home oval Whitefriars started brilliantly against Uni Blacks with the first 4 goals. However, once Uni Blacks adjusted to the conditions they exerted their dominance for the remaining 3 quarters. The efforts of Matt Pelosi and Heath Fulton were grand but not enough to stop 9 goal returns for the Uni in each of the 2nd and 4th quarters. Despite the big final margin the Friars boys kept their spirits and efforts up.
