Enright Inspires Blues
In his 150th First grade game for the Blues, Matthew Enright helped inspire his team to a determined 47 win over respected arch rivals Cardiff . In torrential conditions at Dick Burwell Oval Nelson Bay , the Blues fought hard in a tight and physical tussle. With only a goal separating the sides at three quarter time, the Blues were able to release the flood gates kicking the last 6 goals of the match.
Best for the Blues included Shannon Burke, who was ferocious in the middle. He was extremely well supported by young duo Josh Avis and Jackson Monk. Players Player Sam Payne was effective all around the ground for four quarters He was also able to offer some aggressive clearances in the final quarter, along with a classy goal. Around the ground there were plenty of contributors; Josh Wheeler was a rock at full back, as were Reyne Hondow and Mathew Bailey at Half Back. Ryley Lang was supreme keeping goal kicking machine Michael Ryan to only a handful of possessions without troubling the scorers. Mark Wheeler was able to turn it on when it counted most, kicking 3 goals in the last quarter, and finishing with 5 for the match. The man of the moment Matty Enright celebrated his milestone with two sneaky goals, and a swag of possessions playing across half back, through the middle and at half forward.
With just four weeks until the finals, the City Boys will now firmly focus their endeavours on dismantling and learning from the past month of matches against the other top 4 teams, and developing their game plan, and structures in readiness for the finals series.
The team would like to thank all of the support personnel and supporters for making the huge effort to get up to Nelson Bay for the match – it was recognised and duly appreciated by all of the players. The atmosphere although very wet and cold, was terrific and it was great to share the occasion of ‘Stimpy’s‘ 150th as a club.
