Jim Bell played with the club, mainly at centre half back, during the 1970’s, and was a member of the 1974 premiership team. He was a tough, strong footballer with a good "football brain", and the ability to read the play well. He was a good strong mark, and was able to use his strength to out-position opponents and take either a strong "pack" mark, or get a fist to the ball. But Jim’s most memorable attributes were his reliability, and fierce determination. Coaches knew that Jim would not let them down. He always gave his all, never took a backward step, and (in today’s parlance) was a master at "hard ball gets" and the "one-percenters". Jim can’t be with us tonight as he is running in a marathon in Alice Springs.
