The Lismore Swans have easily accounted for an under strength Byron outfit in very windy conditions at Shultz Oval Bangalow on the weekend. The Swans needed a big performance to build player confidence after the last 2 matches and they didn't disappoint.
The Swans kicking with a stong breeze dominated the midfield continuously driving the ball forward giving Lismore's forward line plenty of opportunity to kick goals. The red and the white kicked 6 opening quarter goals however slackened off late in the term which allowed Byron to snag 2 of their own. Lismore taking a 29 point lead into the first break.
The second quarter the Swans lifted to another level against the strong breeze and it all started in the midfield and flowed throughout the backline and up forward. Jason dominated the ruck providing the Swans with plenty of ball as the Swans running football returned to their side. Gus was strong once again up back and Dean Webb provided plenty up forward as did Jak Johnston on his return. The Swans were able to kick 6 goals to 1 against the breeze to run out 62 point leaders at the main break.
Many missed opportunities in the third could have totally buried the magpies and the unfortunate potentially season ending injury to George didn't help, however the Swans persisted in driving the ball forward and kept the Magpies scoreless for the term to take a 87 point lead into the final break.
The Swans didn't stop in the last term and Chris Fielder had the ball on a string. Many positives to come out of this game with all players contributing to the 100 point win. A great effort all round.
Best on the day were hard to pick as all contributed however Chris Fielder, Angus Legoe, Jason Bevan, Daniel Bruce, Rowan Hindry, Tom Merrett all played very well.
Goals; Dean Webb 4, Tom Merrett 3, 2 each to George Massa, Daniel Bruce, Jason Bevan, Shaun Wadwell, singles were kicked by Roly Barrett, Nathaniel Ihanimo, Chris Fielder
Next game is scheduled at home v Byron.
