Jake Batchelor from the Richmond Football Club is the Round 16 NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.
The defender played his best match for the Tigers against Essendon at the MCG last Saturday night with 11 kicks, 11 handpasses, six marks and two tackles. His opponents included Alwyn Davey, Kyle Reimers, Leroy Jetta and Angus Monfries.
Jake, 19, made his AFL debut in Round One and has played 13 matches this year.
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said Jake’s development has continued throughout the season.
“Jake has worked really hard to get his opportunity and we have been impressed with how composed he looks at the highest level.”
“He has become one of our most reliable kicks coming out of defence and is an outstanding character around the Club,” he said.
Recruited from the Frankston Rovers Junior Football Club and the Dandenong Stringrays, Jake was Richmond’s second selection (selection 30 overall) in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft.
Jake is the second Tiger to be nominated for the rising star this year following Reece Conca in Round Nine. Both players were nominated in matches against Essendon.
