SENIORS
Whitefriars took full advantage of an opportunity to put a 2 game gap between themselves and Old Geelong on the Division 1 ladder. With a 105 point win the Friars are now 6 points clear in 4th place. An even first quarter indicated that the contest would be similar to the first meeting in which Old Geelong triumphed by 8 points. However after quarter time the Friars unleashed some great footy for the next 3 quarters to totally dominate the game. With all lines playing well it was particularly pleasing to see the continued great from of the defence to only allow 5 goals in good conditions. This is no small part due to the outstanding display from the captain, Simon Brosolo, who was clearly the most influential player on the ground. While the Senior coach, Theo Vlahos, is on an overseas trip his deputy, George Adgemis, would have been particularly pleased with the players’ ability to find multiple avenues to goal with 12 players scoring majors. On a day in which every player contributed, special mentions go to young guns, Tom Woodman and Daniel Hogan, who have been outstanding so far, and to Matthew Migliore who played a great game in his new role. Next week we travel to Parade College where Old Paradians will be a tough opponent as they proved to be in our close win earlier in the season.

UNDER 19’s
Facing the 2nd top team who had given us a thumping earlier in the season, coach Dean Thorn was delighted with the effort of the Under 19’s against Bulleen Templestowe. With several key players missing the team bucked the trend of recent weeks and played the game out with intensity for 4 quarters. Missed opportunities in the 1st quarter gave Bulleen Templestowe a big advantage which they were able to hold for the game. However, to outscore them in the last quarter was of great credit to the team. Calvin Spencer played a great game for the Friars and Dave Blewonski was again outstanding until suffering a serious injury. Once again Tom Stanbrook and Nathan McKeown proved to be very reliable. Next week we hope to score a win against Old Westbourne at home.

RESERVES
The Reserves pulled of their best win of the season by inflicting Old Geelong’s first loss of the season. In a very good 4 quarter performance the Friars took it right up to the ladder leaders in the 1st half, and were particularly dominant in the 2nd half and ran out winners by 26 points. Aiden Baggoley was clearly the best player on the ground with a super aerial performance with Matt Lucarelli doing a great job at ground level. Currently in 5th position the Friars have destiny in their own hands with games against fellow finals contenders coming up.
