The Lismore Swans showed plenty of courage in Saturdays performance against the Tigers playing good hard solid football. The Swans were lacking in numbers struggling to fill a bench with coach Steve Huckerby putting on the boots. The Swans may have been missing some key players however this did not stop the Swans endeavour. Saturday was a beautiful day for football commencing with a presentation for mayor Jenny Dowell who came down to support the Swannies.
The Swans were brilliant in the first term, running hard and putting on some big tackles as they drove the ball forward with Tom Merrett playing very well giving forwards Dean Webb, Steve Huckerby, and Daniel Moloney with plenty of options. The Swans running away early to take a 20 point lead at the first break.
The Tigers stepped up in the second term and were able to find the run and space however the Swans continued to put some solid tackles on the Tweed players. The game continued to be a good game of football as backman Angus Legoe did his best to stop the Tigers goals. Jason Bevan led the way in thr ruck providing the Swans with opportunities to clear the ball forward and Daniel Bruce continued to display winning football. The Swan let the lead slip in the final minutes to be 1 point down at half time.
The Lismore Swans continued to show grit in the third term with Jason Bevan, Daniel Bruce, and Shaun Wadwell putting on some big tackles. The Swans effort could not quite stop the Tigers as they trailed by 22 points at three quarter time.
Even though the Tigers kicked the first few goals in the final term and the Swans struggled with injuries this did not stop the Swans intensity with Daniel Moloney leading the way putting on some brilliant tackles to show his side how to finish games.
A fantastic effort all round by the Swans, one that they should be proud off. A few injuries to hopefully get through however the Swans are keen and will look forward to hosting Ballina next weekend as the Swans expect a few players to return for the encounter.
Best on the day were Angus Legoe, Tom Merrett, Daniel Moloney, Daniel Bruce, Jason Bevan and Steve Smith
