AFL VOLUNTEERS ROUND
DIGGERS REST FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB RECOGNISES A SUPER VOLUNTEER.
It is 8.30am on a cold and windy Diggers Rest July Saturday morning, you are hoping that everybody you meet today is friendly and will respect you as they enter your domain.
You are acting as the gate man at Diggers Rest Recreation Reserve simply because you know that your job is valuable to the existence of your football club.
Almost everybody treats you as you were hoping, then somebody tries to get into your football club without paying. What do you do?
Our gate man smiles, remembers their face and if they belong to HIS club informs the President or Secretary who will take the necessary action. In fact if you live within 100kms of the oval, he probably knows you or somebody who does.
Such is the life of Tony Monaghan, the gate man at Diggers Rest for the last 8 years and despite being nearly run over on numerous occasions still turns up every home game and does his job.
Without people like Tony no club in our league could survive and all we ask is that you RESPECT Tony, and the other gate people throughout the league.
REMEMBER, If we did not have Tony, YOU might have to do the job.
So, when you drive in this week, give Tony a well done and a big smile.
WELL DONE TONY, YOUR SUPPORT IS MAGNIFICENT.
In addition we would also like to thank the following people who volunteer without question EVERY week.

The Melton Leader is running a poll on what makes Melton Shire Unique. Given the fact that Diggers Rest is rich in history with the Gold Rush Era and the connection with the famous Harry Houdini it would be a good idea for residents in Diggers Rest to show support for Diggers Rest in the poll.
With the fire at the General Store yesterday and the historical Diggers Rest Hotel just left to rot, a strong level of support for the "Houdini Monument Photo" may help toward future grant funding in the direction of Diggers Rest... here's hoping.

SUNBURY'S HELPING HAND
Lance Eddy has arranged for the Diggers Rest Football Netball Club to acquire a DEFIBRILLATOR through the defibforlife organization and with the co-operation of Sunbury Helping Hand and the Bendigo Bank.
Included in the package will be full training provided by defibfor life.
After discussions between the DRFNC, DRJFC, DRBVCC, Burras Sports Club and the Diggers Rest CFA we feel it best for all groups and the Diggers Rest community that the defribillator be placed in the Main Community Hall at the Diggers Rest Recreation Reserve.
Accordingly, we have asked the Shire of Melton to support us in making this important community asset available to the entire Diggers Rest family by :
Assuming ownership of the defribillator as it becomes a valuable asset to the community of Diggers Rest.
Acknowledgment of the provision of the defribillator from the DRFNC and Sunbury Helping Hand.
Provide a storage area within the main hall so that all user groups can gain access.
Forward this information along to all user groups, and once a date has been set for the training, arrange attendance of all user groups at said training.
Include the provision, maintenance and security of the defribillator in all tenancy rental agreements.
Arrange whatever inspection periods are deemed necessary to ensure the debribillator is in perfect working order at all times.
The Committee of the Diggers Rest Football Netball Club take great pride in making this announcement and earnestly believe that by all user groups of the Diggers Rest Recreation Reserve and the CFA working co-operatively we can provide the community of the Shire of Melton and Diggers Rest, in particular, with recreational facilities of which they can be proud.
Defib Your Club, For Life, is a not for profit initiative, which is about empowering your community to react to its own life‐threatening situation of a sudden cardiac arrest in a calm and controlled manner, knowing that you have the equipment, skill and understanding to do so.
Our simple goal is to put as many automatic defibrillators into Clubs as possible.
The more automatic defibrillators we have out there, the more lives that will be saved.
The initiative was commenced after the death of Stephen Buckman, a 19 Year old Rupertswood Football Club player who died suddenly at training after suffering a cardiac arrest in 2010.
After many years of personal experience as a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic, it is my view that the proliferation of public access automatic defibrillators will save lives.
Known Facts:
- •
- •
- • For every 1--‐minute that elapses after collapse, this equates to a 10% less chance of survival.
By 10 minutes the hope of survival is drastically diminished.
- • At the MCG there is a survival rate of 85%
Compare this to only 7% chance elsewhere in our communities.
Automatic defibrillators are available at the MCG.
We aim to provide your Club with the tools that should any one of your fellow players, officials, or supporters suffer a cardiac arrest that you able to provide immediate assistance until an ambulance arrives on scene.
