On the 18th June 2011, a special girls Auskick day was organised at the North Melbourne Auskick centre. The initiative was created by centre coordinator Robert Moore, with over 100 girls invited from all different age groups. The girls came together for a training session under the guidance form a number of senior players from the Melbourne University Women’s Football Club. The North Melbourne Football Club also got involved providing a number of prizes for the girls on the day.
The day was well recognised by all everyone involved as a good chance for girls in the region to come together to promote and develop the game of Australian Rules football.
Rob Moore (North Melbourne Auskick Coordinator) - "The response from parents was extremely positive and we would love to make it a regular occurrence."
Emma Phillips (Melbourne University Women’s FC) - "We had a fabulous day and really enjoyed the excitement and enthusiasm shown by all the girls. We'd be more than happy to make this a regular occurrence.”
The North Melbourne Centre will be running another come and try "All Girls Auskick Session" on Saturday, 23rd of July 2011 at Arden St from 9am - 10.15am. Thers session is free and everyone age 5-12 is welcome to attend!!!
