This Saturday we celebrate Simon Brosolo’s 150th Game for the Mighty Friars. Simon entered senior ranks initially as an under 19 during a very successful period in the clubs history 2002 – 2003. Immediately his desire for the one on one contest was apparent and he became a very valuable member of those teams as the club progressed from C grade ultimately to A grade. While these years were wonderfully successful Simon’s true mettle has shone like a beacon through the difficult times the club has endured. His unwavering belief in the Whitefriars football club, his leadership over the past 5 years and his “great bloke” factor have played a huge part the in the stabilisation and rebuilding of the club.
As president of the club I have had the fortune of working closely with Simon as the captain on a number of occasions and often in matters that can be quite difficult. Simon has always responded as he plays with strength, commitment and loyalty; he has an unfailing loyalty to his teammates. By the same token those difficult that have arisen have always been resolved internally through the players and I am certain his leadership and character have been a major factor.
On the ground his leadership has always been of the highest class in both the example he sets with competitiveness and his direction and encouragement of the players. On the training track he also leads by example and displays his great commitment and enthusiasm. Finally off the ground and in the social arena, Simon is always very keen to be involved in events. Super Sunday is believed to be his particular favourite.
Simon should be enormously proud of his contribution in the #7 guernsey, we look forward to many more wonderful performances from Broz in the future. The club is certainly proud of him and look forward to great showing this week in his milestone game against Banyule and hope to have a great audience in attendance.
