SENIORS
The seniors took on Watsonia at home on Saturday and were looking forward to getting a much needed win on the board. The first half was played with great intensity in hard conditions with both sides attacking the football and trying to get some sort of running game going. It was the Hills that were able to slowly get on top and take a handy lead into the half time break. The 2nd half saw the Hills start to get on top. They started to win more footy out of the middle and get it into the forward line quickly which made scoring more easy as the congestion wasn’t there as it had been in the first half. The Redbacks were also able to get some really good run and switch going out of the back half which ultimately set up a great win. It was a great hard determined effort for the Hills to get the victory and sing the song that hadn’t been heard for a while. Some efforts that are worth mentioning, was Nathan Brundell’s move to full forward where he played his best game for the year, Shane Price was good in a new role down back, Brock Kreymborg provided a key target after getting a few games under his belt. Another win next week against Parkside will really get the season back on track.
RESERVES
The Redbacks Reserves on Saturday were beaten by Watsonia in what was a close game. It was an even game throughout but it was eventually won by Watsonia in the last quarter who ran out nine point victors. The Hills felt they were close enough to still win with only minutes to play but couldn’t get that much needed goal that was vital to pull the scores to within a kick. Better players on the day were Dom Bee who was in everything, Nathan Grimshaw solid across half back and Chris Sansom who did what he always does. Alex Jackson up forward chipped in with two goals in the low scoring affair. With more and more players coming back form injury each week, competition for positions in the Panton Hill team is healthy so training is vital for selection. Bouncing back with a win against Parkside next week is critical.
