The Tweed Coast Tigers are looking to keep their 2011 Premiership campaign rolling on this Saturday when they take on the Byron Magpies at Tigerland Pottsville.
The Tigers are coming of a 97 point drubbing of the Lismore Swans last week and starting to build momentum towards the finals. The reigning premiers have only dropped 1 game this season and their on field combinations are causing the opposition some major headaches as they try to dismantle the defending champs.
Tigers President Mark Downward is quietly confident “As a Club we are starting to tick all the boxes this season. We still haven’t managed to put our best team on the field, but the squad is training hard and delivering the goods on the paddock. We are determined and focused on our goal of back to back Premierships.”
Whilst it has been the Tigers quality midfield and classy forwards that have been performing all season the backline is starting show signs of the form that helped deliver the club the 2010 Flag.
Outstanding performances in the last 2 games by brothers Josh and Sam Edwards added with the return of star fullback Timmy Wells has caused problems for the opposition forwards, with scoring opportunities against the Tigers hard to come by.
This Saturday’s game against Byron will see the return from injury of the Tigers star full forward Jason Bolt who was the league’s leading goal kicker last season and a perfect replacement for the current leading goal kicker Ash Gemmill, who will be rested this week.
The game starts at 2pm at Tigerland Pottsville.
Go Tigers!
