On a fantastic sunny day for football the Tweed Coast Tigers mauled a lacklustre Swans outfit in front of the biggest home crowd of the season to win by 97 points and firmly re-establish themselves at the top of the ladder.
The last time these two sides meet the Swans handed the Tigers their only loss in 28 games of football, which was a massive wake up call for the club. Since then the Tigers have refocussed, picked up a couple of quality players to bolster the ranks and set their sights on going back to back in 2011.
The Tigers have not lost at Tigerland since Rd 3 2009 and Saturdays display showed it’s not likely to happen any time soon. A player’s player performance from new recruit Thor dominated the ruck in absence of the Tigers twin towers Wilson and Strope, and the powerful Tigers onballers of Johnno, Walle and Captain Jai had too much running for the Swans.
Ash Gemmill again starred up front bagging 7 goals, with Jimmy Wale picking up 5, Big John nabbed 3 with strong marking. It could of been much worse for the Swans if the Tigers radar had of been on. 42 scoring shots to the Swans 15 pretty much summed up the day.
Whilst the Tigers forwards had a field day it was like the Tigers of 2010 down the backs with a solid display from all the backmen making it very hard for the younger Swans to convert. Josh Edwards popped his goal scoring cherry to bag 2 goals with a great performance and was aptly supported down back by Lachy, Westy, Timmy and Sammy who also snuck up front to bag two goals.
Whilst the Swans had plenty of players they were missing several key members and are sure to be a much tougher prospect next time the sides meet.
