SENIORS
Last week’s game saw us return back to our home ground for the first time in a couple of weeks. It was a huge game for both the Redbacks and for Reservoir. If we win, we go 2 games clear in 4th ...but lose and we slip back to the pack. With the Presidents lunch on before the game it was a bumper crowd that came to watch the Hills on Saturday. Although the ground wasn’t in great shape the Redback boys were confident of a win, but right from the start you could see Reservoir had come to play. They were continually first for the ball and linked up well from half back playing a couple of loose players in our forward half. They also continually switched the play and ran hard forward to really put some scoreboard pressure on the boys by ¼ time. A 5 goal to 2 term really set the Mustangs up for the remainder of the match. The 2nd quarter was more of a tussle and the game became a bit of a slog, however Reservoir were still able to outscore The Hills and provide many counter attacks from their back half. The 3rd came around and the Panton Hill boys started to lift their intensity leading Reservoir to the footy and starting to find some rhythm up forward kicking 4 goals for the term to be within 3 goals at the last change. The good showing in the 3rd quarter was not to last as The Hills became lazy and started to slip back. After Reservoir were able to kick back to back goals mid way through the term the game had slipped away from the Hills. In what was a dirty day in front of a vocal home crowd and there weren't too many shining lights for the Redbacks. Ben Garrard was solid at centre half back, and Will Box toiled away like he does most weeks. So at the half way mark the Panton Hill boys have to really start to think long and hard about how far we want to go this year. It’s now time for the Hills to start to turn things around and train hard and play hard. Go Hillers!!
RESERVES
The last couple of weeks has been a roller coaster ride with a disappointing loss to South Morang then a memorable win against Reservoir last Saturday. On the Saturday of the queens birthday weekend we took on the fourth placed South Morang with an undermanned line-up due to players taking advantage of the long weekend and a number of players still recovering from injury and this proved to being a major factor in our first loss for the season. The best players on the day were Ty Dummett, Ander Miller and Chris Sansom. The Redbacks coach wishes to thank all the players that played and filled in acknowledging that it was certainly a tough day at the office.
Last Saturday The Hills took on Reservoir who were ready to hit things hard right from the start. In the first half it a was a low scoring affair with both teams going in at half time with only two goals each. During the half time break the coach demanded we lift our intensity and play smart wet condition footy and with Lucas Brass steering the ship the Panton Hill boys were able to break away in the 3rd Qtr to gain a four goal lead. At 3qtr time and playing the 2nd placed team The Hills knew the game wasn’t over and had to make sure they held our nerve if they wanted to come away with the win which is exactly what happened. Better players were Nathan Grimshaw, Chris Sansom, Daniel Keen, Dylan Collins and Lucas Brass.
