SENIORS
The conditions at South Morang were quite reasonable although the ground was a little bit heavy in patches and the moderate wind favoured the Boulevard end of the ground to which the Lions kicked in the first quarter. The breeze enabled the Lions to kick 6 goals in the first whilst the Hills managed 2 goals and had plenty of opportunities up forward. The second quater was the best for the Hills as Dave Vangeli picked up plenty of the ball and Tristan Kreymborg dominated at centre half forward whilst Daniel Keen did the ruckwork. By halfway through the quarter there was only a point in it and the momentum was with the Redbacks. But a silly 50 metre penalty and some lazy turnovers gave Shane Whitnall a couple for the Lions and a three goal lead at half time. The Hills held strong in the third quarter against the breeze restricting the hom side to a solitary goal and snagging three for themselves to give them a chance at the last break. However, the running game of the Lions put an end to a last quarter hopes of the Hills. Will Box, James Dodds, James Gilliland and Ben Clark, in his first senior game this year, were strong down back. Meanwhile, Tristan Kreymborg, Dave Vangeli, Brett Thorn and Ricky Woods did plenty of hard work through the middle. With few more inclusions in the coming weeks the Hills are confident in getting back on the winners list and getting a run on in the second half of the season.
RESERVES
