SENIORS
Whitefriars once again showed the resilience required to be a top 4 team in Division 1 with a hard fought 12 point win over Parkdale. With a fast start through a mark and goal from James O’Meara the Friars took the initiative. But the signs that a tough contest was in store son surfaced with Parkdale hitting back strongly to lead by a goal at the first break. Michael Mirabella then led the charge in the 2nd quarter with a dominant performance in which the Friars added 5 goals to break away to a 20 point lead at half time. The third quarter was a tight and tough affair with Friar young guns, Mitch Geilings and Dan Massarotti showing their class. With a 24 point lead at the last change the Friars knew Parkdale would challenge – and challenge they did. They threw everything at Whitefiars in the last quarter by scoring 4 goals for the quarter. But the Friars still had plenty of the ball, and an inaccurate 1.7 for the quarter was enough to score a 12 point win in a great contest befitting two teams fighting to maintain their place in the top 4. Simon Broisolo again showed outstanding leadership and the ‘older heads’ in the team in, Brendan Stafford, Andrew Hill and Paul Del Giudice, kept the Friars on track for an undefeated record at the Friar Fortress in 2011. After the holiday weekend we travel to take on Peninsula Old Boys at M. Eliza.

UNDER 19’s
The bus trip to Old Westbourne provided an expected win for the Friars against depleted opposition. An inaccurate first quarter of 8.17 on a wind-swept ground was the platform for a dominant performance. The highlight of the performance from the Friars was the ability to get 17 goal scorers allowing the score to reach 200. Dom Chambers and Damien Loh were great contributors while Michael Nitas was creative with 7 goals. After the break we face a tough but winnable game against Therry at home to push for a top 4 place.

RESERVES
The Reserves continued to struggle with Parkdale in control of the game. However, the effort was evident and the team keeps providing players who are up to the challenge of playing in the Seniors. Adam Pearson continued his consistent season with Dane egerton and Matt Lucarelli also playing well in the 28 point loss. The third quarter was a costly one.

THIRDS
Quite simply the 3rds have been outclassed in recent games and injuries to our higher teams have taken a toll on the 3rds. Uni Blacks were much more skilled, quicker and accurate to run out easy winners. Clint Collins and Dan Tucker demonstrated their great leadership skills to keep the boys spirits up and keep contesting. After a week off in which we hope a few players return from injury, the 3rds face a tough challenge at home against Caulfield Grammarians.
