SENIORS
Panton Hill headed out to Heidelberg West on the weekend in search of a victory after a disappointing loss the week before at home. Heidelberg West were coming off the bye and the Redbacks had another 3 guys out through injury. But this gave a couple of other guys the opportunity to play their first games of the season. The game started in slow fashion with both sides turning the ball over. But it was the Hills who scored first. Tristan Kreymborg started at full forward alongside Pete Davey and the two worked well together to set up a 6 goal quarter for the hills and a healthy 29 point lead at ¼ time. The 2nd started with Heidelberg West doing most of the attacking, but the boys held up well with James Dodd and Will Box repelling many forward thrusts from the West boys. After some time the Hills started to win more of the stoppages and create some run through Ricky Woods and Kelley LeGassick on the wings and Joffa Byron in scintillating form back in the side. When Brendon O’Connor goaled before half time the Hills had stretched the lead to 42 at the long break. At the break the coach asked the Panton Hill boys for more of a sustained effort as he believed the boys were only playing in fits and spurts. So the 3rd started well for the Hills with Kreymborg kicking truly early and Pete Davey also getting on the end of some good work up in the midfield. Will box was getting plenty of it in the middle as was Brett Thorn, and the boys received plenty of run from the back line through James Gilliland. At ¾ time Panton Hill had a comfortable 62 point lead. The last quarter was the best for the Hills. They piled on 11 goals in what was a fantastic display thanks to the drive out of the middle from Byron. Although the Hills finished the game again with only 1 on the bench after some more injuries, it was all smiles coming off the ground after the final siren. All played really well, with Kreymborg bagging 9 goals for the day, Pete Davey 5 and the skipper had another great game as did James Dodd down back. We now head to South Morang this week and look forward to the challenge that awaits. Go Hills!!
RESERVES
The 2s took on a much improved Heidelberg West last Saturday. The Hawks took it right up to the Panton Hill boys in the first half on the wide expanses of Heidelberg Park with their carry of the ball. This forced the Redbacks to dig deep to remain undefeated. After half time The Hills came out with an increased desire to win. The focus was to play team footy which resulted in a seven goal 3rd quarter to break open the game and setup the win. Dylan Collins kicked five and proved a handful while Shan Darcey-Molloy, in his first game for a couple of weeks, was a handy inclusion in the midfield. Meanwhile Matt Layt in only his second game back won the hardball on many occasions. On a sour note the Hills lost Kyle with a broken leg. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
