The Tweed Coast Tigers will face their toughest challenge of the season in Rd 9 of the Summerland AFL League this Saturday when they head into enemy territory at Ballina to take on the high flying Bombers. The two sides have not met since the Tigers knocked the Bombers out of the Preliminary Final last year.
The Bombers are building momentum this season with a full squad of players and are showing some great form coming off a massive win last weekend, thumping the Lismore Swans by 10 goals and are talking up their chances of rolling the defending premiers in the match of the round to be held on the massive Fripp Oval.
Whilst the Tigers easily accounted for an under strength Byron Magpies last weekend, injuries have taken their toll, with some major players out this week. Ruckman and forward Nathan Wilson is in a cast and on crutches after badly damaging his left ankle and is hopeful of a return just before the finals. The Tigers backline will also be depleted by the loss of veterans Arty Richmond(travel), Paul Lathorous (ribs) and diehard fullback Timmy Wells also with an ankle injury.
However it’s not all doom and gloom at Tigerland, wiht the return from injury of halfback Josh Edwards, onballer Josh Bone and star full forward Jason Bolt. Also coming back in the yellow and black is big John Cassidy (from suspension).
With the current combination of giant Ruckman Brennan Lye and quality onballers John Bevan, Jimmy Walle and Jai Purcel the Tigers will be solid in the middle and with high flying forwad Ash Gemmill coming off an 11 goal effort last week the Tigers are hoping to continue their momentum.
The game will start at 2pm at Fripp Oval, Ballina.
Go the Tigers!
