Our first Vice-President and Chairman of Selectors, Rex Ablett, died last weekend after a battle with illness. Rex was one of the leaders of our club that joined us from Heatherdale Junior Football Club. His astute football knowledge made him an integral member of our club in its formative years. His presence around the clubrooms on Thursday night was infamous with players dreading the tap on the shoulder from Rex to inform them of the loss of their spot in the senior side. This is never a pleasant role in the club but one that is important and Rex’s ability to handle the variety of reactions and emotions was one his great qualities and strengths.
The funeral service for Rex will be held Friday June 3 from 10:00am at the Activate Church, 1/20 Melbourne St, Ringwood with a wake at H.E Parker Reserve Clubrooms. Friar past players, supporters and committee will gather in our clubrooms on Saturday prior to the Senior game to remember our times with Rex.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Rex’s family at this sad time.
