Only two games were scheduled for the weekend, with the Seniors and Reserves both being drawn a bye. But there was no rest for the players, with both teams having a rigorous training session at Gore Hill before the Under 18s match.
The Under 18s saw the Bombers matched against the newly-promoted Penrith. The Bombers had a big win when the two sides played at Dukes Oval early in the season, and it was another flying start this time. The Bomber midfield was magnificent, and the Rams could only manage two inside 50s in the first term, both of which resulted in goals. But the Bombers, going to the hospital end, ran through 8 scoring shots to lead by 16 points at the first change.
The Bombers didn't have everything their own way during the second quarter, which was a tightly-contested term of footy where neither side was able to get many uncontested possessions. But the Bombers occasionally broke free to kick the only three goals of the quarter, stretching the lead to 37 points at the long break. And in the third quarter, the Rams scored the first goal in the first 30 seconds, throwing a challenge to the Bombers. But the Bombers rose to the challenge, creating more space than they were able to in the second term to score the next six and extend the margin to 62 points at the last change.
The final quarter wasn't one that reached any great heights, with the game already safely won. But the Bombers won the quarter, stretching the final margin out to 67 points. After their loss to Riverview last week, it was a pleasing result to get back on the winning list. Alex Ladamatos was a star performer with a bag of 8 goals, while James Fitzgerald contributed 4; Andrew Morris, Callum D'Soouza, Mitchell Douglas, Erol Sertbas and Lachlan Kilpatrick were also prominent in a solid team effort.
Meanwhile at St Pauls Oval, our Thirds were in action against Sydney Uni. It was another tough step along the sharp learning curve for our newest team, as Sydney Uni were faster and stronger. Our players tried hard, never giving up, but didn't have the firepower and went down by 99 points.
