The Lismore Swans lacked experience all around the ground on Saturday and lacked a bit of ticka as the Ballina Bombers came out to play at Mortimor Oval. The Swans started well when Jak Johnson kicked the opening goal however several other attempts at goal were unsuccessful early in the term and Ballina took full advantage kicking the next 5 goals before George Massa slotted one through to bring the margin down to 16 points at quarter time.
The second quarter proved a very embarrassing one for the Swans as they copped an absolute drubbing struggling to even get the ball forward while Ballin through their midfield dominated to totally blow out the games to an 8 goal margin at half time. The second quarter was by far the most dissapointing quarter the Swans have displayed in several years.
The third quarter saw Ballina come out firing again kicking the first couple of goals before the Swans started to have a real crack starting from Rhys Lavery in the backline continually driving the ball out of the backline. Nahaniel Ihanimo scored a goal before Tom Waters roved the back to kick a brilliant goal. Another 2 quick goals for George Massa moving up forward provided the Swans with a bit of respect as they narrowed the margin and gave their supporters something to cheer about.
The final quarter was disrupted by a few malays and some indisciplined performances by the Swans which resulted in some additional Ballina goals, one goal going the Swans way in the final term before Simon Howard put a big hard hip n shoulder on Liam Stafford to end the game with a scuffle.
The Swans have a lot of work to do after this display, with many players needing to lift and perform the Swans are to have any success this season. Getting down to training will be a must to all players this week before the Swans take on Byron at home next weekend.
Best on the day for the Swans were Rhys Lavery, Georeg Massa, Angus Legoe, Tom Merrett, Simon Howard, Jak Johnson.
Goal kickers were George Massa with 4, and singles to Jak Johnson, Nahaniel Ihanimo, Tom Waters, and Ethan Lenson.
