SENIORS
On Saturday the Hills headed out to Ford Park to take on St. Mary’s. The condition of the ground was fantastic and with the sun shining it was a great day for footy apart from a slight breeze. With the Hills still missing a few players it was always going to be a tough challenge to come up against a young and quick St. Marys team on their home patch. The game started well with both teams looking to take an early lead, St. Mary’s were the first to get the scoreboard ticking over when they goaled early. It was a struggle at times for the Hills to get deep into their forward half kicking into a stiff breeze. With some great run from the wing supplied by Jack Ryan the Hills were able to eventually get some goals on the board and at the quarter time break went in only 3 points down. The 2nd started well for the Hills when Brendon O’Connor was able to kick his 2nd goal for the game and the Redbacks found themselves in front for the first time. Little Jack was still running hard and Simon Gunn was also providing plenty of run from halfback. The Hills were able to kick 4 goals for the quarter and keep St. Mary’s to 2, to take a 10 point lead into the main break. The 3rd quarter was a cracker, both sides took the game on with plenty of run and carry and both sides managed to kick five goals for the quarter. Will Box started to have an influence as did Ben Garrard in his floating roll across half back. Brendon O’Connor was marking everything that came his way, and Brett Thorn was making sure the Hills won most of the centre clearance’s. At the last change it was still anyone’s game with the Hills holding onto a 9 point lead. The last quarter started like all the others with the ball travelling from one end of the ground to the other with fast slick ball movement, but it was the Hills who hit the score board first. The Hills were able to push the margin out to 22 points in the last quarter only for St. Mary’s to pull it back again to 10 points late into time on. But when Brendon O’Connor kick truly for his 7th of the day the Hills were home and back on the winners list. The Hills now take on South Morang next week.
RESERVES
Again the reserves continued on with it's winning start to the season and remains the only team undefeated! The entire team once again showed that they're hungry for success and powered away from St Mary's against the strong breeze in the 2nd quarter which setup the win. With so much improvement still possible it is important that The Hills stay focused with clear minds set on what is to be to achieved. Dylan Collins again was good in front of goal and German also provided the midfield with first use of the ball. He was well supported by Keeno and AJ. Prence and Millsy were strong contributors while Clarke, Doddsy and Dom Bee were all amongst the better players. Well done and it was game well played. We all hope Snappy has a speedy recovery from that unfortunate incident!
