SENIORS
Panton Hill headed out to Reservoir on Saturday with grey clouds and plenty of rain in the air. With the ground a mud heap it was well and truly back to wet weather footy. With a few of the boys out injured and suspended it was going to be a hard slog against an impressive Reservoir unit. The first quarter started with Reservoir providing plenty of run from their backline and using the wings well to set up many forward thrusts. But the Panton Hill boys worked hard to dispel many of these and went into the quarter time break just 1 goal down. The second quarter started much like the first with Reservoir doing most of the attacking, and when Benn Parker went down with a serious back injury the Hills lost a lot of their drive out of the middle. Tristan Kreymborg worked hard along with Brett Thorn and Jay Gilmore to keep the Hills in the contest, and at half time the margin was still only 9 points. The third quarter proved to be the quarter that would ultimately set up the win for Reservoir. They were able to pile on 5 goals for the quarter and kept the Hills goalless. Despite many of the players really going in hard and trying to push the ball forward the Hills were unable to match the quick movement that Reservoir were able to generate. The last quarter was the best of the day for the Hills as they managed to outscore Reservoir 2 goals to 1. In what was really trying conditions the boys continued to work hard and not give up right until the final siren. Teddy was great again all day in the ruck, Thorny was into everything, Longy battled hard all day as did Jay Gilmore. And little Jack Ryan in for his first game of the year provided plenty of run. The boys now take on an ever improving St. Marys outfit next week and will be no doubt trying hard to get back onto the winners list. Go Hills!!
RESERVES
Last Saturday the twos took on Reservoir at Reservoir which is a task in its self but in trying conditions this battle was going to be even tougher as both teams were vying for top spot and early bragging rights. In a close low scoring game the Panton Hill boys put in a great effort to get in front on the scoreboard late in the third quarter. The last quarter was a hard slog again but The Hills were able to hold on for a huge 9 point win. Better players were Brett Aldred, Jason Hendry, Chris Sansom, Dylan Collins and David Walton, but it was a great team effort with everyone contributing.
