The Lismore Swans displayed a brilliant second half to run away victors and end Tweed's 24 match winning streak in the first match at Lismore's Mortimor Oval for the 2011 season.
This game was expected to be a tough match for the Swans taking on ladder leaders the Tweed Coast Tigers, and the Swans didn't disappoint producing a great spectacle for their supporters to run out 41 point winners. As expected this match was always going to be tough and physical and indeed it was with both sides going in hard trying to get an edge early however it was the Swans kicked the opening goal. Both sides battled hard and the match got heated at times however nothing could separate the two sides on the score board at the first break.
The second quarter was much the same as the Swans stood up to Tweeds physical intensity, however a couple of injuries to hard man Darren Moncrieff and ruckman Jason Bevan left all the rucking all to Tom Waters which was a tough task against Tweeds big man. Once again nothing separated the two sides at the half time break as scores where all square.
In the third term the Lismore Swans produced an outstanding performance and kicked away from the Tigers kicking 7 goals to 1 for the quarter and blowing out the margin to 6 goals at the final break. The Swans started running the ball better and made most of the opportunities up forward with all players contributing giving the Swans supporters plenty to cheer about.
The Swans understood the importance of not getting too complacent with the lead over Tweed as the team is well aware of the capabilities of the Tweed Coast Tigers. The Tigers got the ball forward and kicked some goals however for every goal kicked there was a Swans goal in reply. In the end an outstanding performance by the Lismore Swans kicking 15.9-99 to Tweed Coast 8.10-58.
Best on the day were Tom Waters, Dillon O'Neil, Chris Devonish, Chris Fielder, Daniel Moloney and Angus Legoe
