Seniors
It was a hard day at the office for our senior team last Saturday when we took on Spotswood at their ground. It was obvious from the opening bounce that Spotty were out to show Altona and the rest of the competition that they will again be a premiership contender in Division 1.
The first quarter saw Spotty throw everything at our boys early but we managed to weather the storm and go into the quarter time break 26 points down.
Spotswood dominated the second quarter and at one point they were 9 goals up before we kicked a 2 late goals to go into the main break an embarrassing 46 points down.
Ace appealed to his players at half time to show some heart and serve it up to Spotty and that is exactly what Altona did. Our midfield started to match it with the opposition giving our forwards an opportunity to score. Altona went in at three quarter time 47 points down.
We matched it again with spotty in the final term but the final score was Altona 10. 8. 68 defeated by Spotswood 17. 13. 115. Johnno Hevern played a great game for Altona kicking 4 goals which was a great effort considering he was playing on ex-AFL player Jason Cloke.
Goal Kickers: J. Hevern 4, Z. Kadour , R. Miles , D. Barnaby , D. Lawson , R. Rich , T. Andrews
Best Players: R. Rich, R. Miles, D. Barnaby, C. Gallagher, J. Hevern, J. Russo
Reserves
Our reserves team were again desperately unlucky not to win their game on Saturday eventually going down to Spotswood by 2 points. This is the third game in as many weeks that our reserves have lost by less than 10 points and we remain winless after 3 rounds which is surprise considering the quality of the players. The final score was Altona 12. 9. 81 defeated by Spotswood 13. 5. 83

U18 Division 1
It was a different story for our U18 Division 1 team. Although Spotwood served it right up to our boys in the first half of the game where they went into the main break leading by 4 point lead, our boys got serious in the second half conceeding only one goal in the second half to win the game by a respectable 39 points. The final score was Altona 10. 17. 77 defeated Spotswood 5. 8. 38
