Finally back at home and down on the bottom oval in front of a parochial home crowd the reserves men were looking to put out a better performance and continue to improve on our year. Experience was added to a very young and inexperienced squad in Aid Williams and Jon Hunt whose on field direction and voice was a welcome inclusion.
Unfortunately we were again slow out of the blocks and the game was effectively over after a very dissapointing first half. In what was our worst half for the year, we failed to show the required commitment to the contest, did not run to support team mates and panicked when in possession of the ball. Under siege down back, defenders Spencer and Porteous made good position on their opponents and were able to minimise the damage. Captain Spikka was one of few players to hunt the ball and man with any aggression and set a standard for hs mates to follow.
The challenge was put to the group at half time, we needed more commitment and desire in the contest. While it was pleasing that we made a massive improvement in the 2nd half and turned the game into a competitive contest, we cannot be satisfied with that. Next week must produce a committed 4 quarter performance. With new signings and players returning to availability, the team will be selected based on training effort this week.
4 quarter contributors for the game were Jon Hunt who gave us a target up forward, before being thrown in the midfield and finishing with 3 goals in the last. Spikka gave all he had and showed typical aggression to the contest. Cam and Spencer toiled hard in the backline against quality opponents all day. Kyle Rosewarne showed a return to form and gave us plenty of drive onball and a target up forward. And Pricey battled well all day through the midfield.
Good to blood a few new players in Junior, Joey and Gibba who will all be better for the run. Looking forward to rising to the challenge and taking on Therry next week.
Go bloods
