The Lismore Swans have gone down in Ballina as goal kicking seemed to be a big problem as the red and white kicked 4 goals 21 behinds making it very difficult for the Swans to pick up the points. You could definately not say that the Swans were not competitive as they were and put in a good effort on the day however not having goals to kick at at training may have cost the Lismore side dearly.
Saturday saw a good game of football from both sides, as two of the Swans more experienced boys, Jason"Ox"Bevan & Daniel Bruce, celebrated their 100th game milestone for the club.Whilst the boys would have loved to notch up a win on their milestone game, all would agree the game was played in great spirits which is fantastic for the local football league, and to Ballina's credit they displayed a hospitable environment and played good football.
A close game of football for much of the day as the Swans led at the first break by 2 points after kicking 1 goal 8 behinds to 2 goals straight. Ballina were able to break the game open late in the third term receiving some 50 metre penalties to deep in the forward line and capatilised.
Lismore had 25 scoring shots to 16 on the day however to Lismore's credit the boys fought out the game to the final siren although only having 17 players on the field from early in the third term and for 10 minutes in the third only having 16 players due to being hampered with injuries.
With a week off for the Easter break the Swans will have to regroup, get to training and practice goal kicking to improve and win games in the coming weeks, The Swans seem to have had there slowest start to a season in several years but with the talent in the side im sure the Swannies will be a force to be reckoned with.
Final scores Lismore 4.21-45 Ballina 9.7-61
Goal kickers for day were all singles to Tim Piper, George Massa, Rowan Hindry, and Dean Webb
Best on the day were Rowan Hindry, Ben Hughes, Shaun Wadwell, Chris Fielder, Tom Merritt and Angus Legoe
