MATCH REPORT SANDGATE HAWKS VS BAYSIDE BOMBERS 9/4/11
The Masters second game of the season was against the Bayside Bombers last weekend. The match was rescheduled from a Sunday to a Saturday afternoon match which left us a little short on numbers but able to field a good team on a very heavy track.
Sandgate once again were a little slow from the start and at the first break were three goals behind. Being short of tall men for the match, Big Kev was covering a lot of ground competing in all rucks and winning the majority of them. A good lead from Andy and accurate kicking from Butch resulted in our only goals of the half- but with great defence from Sock and Darren, we knew we could recover in the second half.
The team work began to click in the second half and we reduced the opposition’s shots at goal to three. The big “Cs” all kicked goals in the second half – Cadz (welcome back), Crawford and Clay (kicked 2- back to the backline next game).Darren also kicked a good goal when brought up in the forward line.
Sandgate fielded several players for their first game- Sock, Dave, and Scott. All had solid games and look forward to their next. We also welcomed back Sparra to the team - he had his normal solid game.
Though beaten on the scoreboard, the team was once again pleased with the second half effort of all players. It was hard going on a rain drenched field, but winning the second half made the after game beers go down easier.
Thanks again to Darren for umpiring the game, and other injured team members for assisting in water running and interchange.
Our first home game is scheduled for the 1st of May. With several weeks for players to recover from minor injuries, we will be fielding our strongest side and anticipate a win over rivals Redcliffe
Final Score 7-1 43 13-5 83
