FUN, FITNESS & FOOTY for FREE at the HAWKS!
In what is seen as a great initiative for the local community, Sandgate Hawks AFL Masters is offering free footy training at Lemke Rd.
The Hawks Masters, now entering their third year, are encouraging “more mature” sports enthusiasts to join the current team for training purposes, at Lemke Rd.
“Its win win” says Kev Crawford president of the masters. “We want to help people get some fitness while having fun, it helps with our training drills and if any decide they want to take the next step and have a game then it’s purely up to them”
The masters slogan is “Footy for Fun” and that’s why the current players have returned year after year.
The masters AFL competition is open to anyone one over 38 that wants to have a go at AFL football.
Kev explains: “Its about guys getting out there, getting exercise, building team spirit and bonding as friends that make this level of competition great”
Player safety is paramount in the masters competition with the rules being modified to minimise the risk of injury. Age Groups are Over 33, Over 38, Over 45 and beyond. Every game is attended to by qualified first aid personnel.
“Now is the ideal time to start as we are just kicking off official training. We train two nights per week and play every second weekend commencing late March.” Kevin explained.
“We score each game but we don’t play finals; so it’s a little less competitive, but everyone is encouraged to do the best they can regardless of skill level.”
Sandgate Hawks Masters are hoping to expand the participants this year and anyone that wants to find out more is encouraged to just turn up to training Mondays and Wednesdays 6.15 pm at Lemke Rd or give Greg Bakx a call on 0423 436 655.
