Hello everyone,
The Highett Football Club season kicks off for our Southern Football League teams on April 9 at our home ground,Turner Road Reserve Highett . It has been decided that the first match of each season will always be Past Players Day and arrangements for this have been made with invitations sent out.
However what was not known at that time is that it is the 50th Anniversary of Highett West Football Club this season. Highett West merged with Highett Districts to form Highett Football Club as it is today, in 1989. The inaugural captain of Highett West, Tony Corr, informed me of this on Saturday, when he said the team ran out for its first game in 1961. So if you know anyone, from that era in particular, please let them know.. We have been compiling a record of past players, but do not have details for all yet and may never have unless everyone helps out.. On Past Players day, James Manson, former Collingwood player, will be guest speaker at a luncheon...Bookings for the$25 per head meal must be made with Jo Valencic on 0409404242 before April 2. Other people may chose to come and watch some of the four matches throughout the day.,without joining the luncheon. The celebrations can continue to licence end at mid-night
There will be four games for the day, starting with the Clubbies (or Thirds) at 8.45am against Sandown Cobras,. The Colts (Under 18’s) who are a combined group of Highett and Hampton lads wearing Hampton colours, and without a name right now, play at 10.30am against Mordialloc. The Reserves will unfurl its 2010 Premiership Flag before its match at 12.15pm and the Seniors will start at 2.30pm.
I apologise for not writing to you all earlier, I have been kept busy with Senior practice matches and season preparation. It is sad when you are so busy keeping up day to day, to keep in touch with those you appreciate most and others that may like, and even be able to help, should they be aware of the situation.
Jumper Presentation Night is at the club Thursday April 7, with a sit down meal to be served around 8.00pm, so please let Jo know on 00409 404 242 know if you will be there, so we cater for the right numbers.
The Moorabbin Saints Junior Football League Highett teams play their first matches on Sunday April 10, then have a couple of weeks off for school holidays and continue the season.
The website hfc.com.au should always be able to tell you what’s on, if not call your coach, team manager or myself.
Some of you may have known about the sausage sizzle at Bunnings on March 19, which raised just , over $1,000. I would like to thank the 21 people who manned the stall on the day, especially the first three, Jo, Bob & Gerard and the last couple, Sharon and Mick ,who shared the clean up with me, along with their.sons Jayden and Connor. I think our communication system failed us, as I know about 80 phone calls or personal approaches were made before believing we had enough helpers. I understand some emails went out and realise not everyone reads them every day, or like me have changed personal details and not yet let the club know. If you have you changed anything – what is
