After a long, tough pre-season, things are starting to come together for season 2011. With a young list this year the boys are primed for a big assault on Division 2.
New coach John Le Grand, brother of famous DJ ‘Fedde Le Grand’ was welcomed down in early November at our meet the coach night. John’s first concern however was thinking he would be dealing with ‘Red’ pleading his case for a game in the senior 22, however much to our surprise ‘Red’ had decided to move on to bigger and better things and these days he is winning time trials for the Gold Coast Suns.
Once training came around the boys were raring to go! Toomes running like a machine (literally), Lach Barnes jumping through the clouds, Lach Mac wearing his mouthguard during our time trial and Mickey O considering a comeback………..again!
John has introduced some new and exciting drills and game plans which have all been welcomed by the boys and are really looking forward to implementing them in the 2011 season……although some basic handball drills have left young Cyril a little bit confused.
The boys have also undertaken a few Saturday morning sessions at both the ‘1000 steps’ and ‘Jell’s Park’ where we were all re-introduced to ‘burpies’ in a tough and gruelling session in the morning sun……oh and if anyone is up on the 1000 steps soon, have a look for Jack Mac, he’s still on his way down.
Our first serious hit out came a few Saturdays back with a tough intraclub at Bloods Stadium. It was a great hit out for the boys and plenty was taken out of the game by John. Some would say the highlight of the day was watching young Pricey racking up speeding fines left right and centre off half back, but if you ask the right people the highlight was the ‘Get to know Eyes Up, Yee Ha and Hooligans session’ that followed in the clubies where two past champions of the club and one ‘self proclaimed’ champion where laid to rest.
Last Saturday saw our first practice match against Therry Penola. Another solid hit out with plenty to work on before our season kicks off on the 9th of April away at LaTrobe.
Best of luck to our senior coach John and reserves coach Mickey O on their first seasons at the helm and best of luck to all the players for the year and let’s get Aquinas back to where we should be!
Go Bloods!
