Hampton Park ground was good, apart from the pavilion looking into the sun. Hot conditions for all, which certainly tested those who had not done a lot of pre season work.
COLTS looked OK. Playing against an U19 team. They certainly have some very good small players.
The RESERVES game was pretty one sided our way, with many of our youngster showing some great form along with more mature players like Glenn Waters, Jamie Rushton and Luke Jones. The boys from the 2010 Colts did very well indeed. Kieren McAuley. Michael Cooper, Michael Sonsie and big Jason Youseff. New boys Anthony Chiodo and Ashley Thompson also looked pretty handy.
The star was former Swan Districts small man Glenn “ Muddy” Waters who’s run and kicking skills had the Senior Coach very interested indeed. Considering Muddy has been restricted at training over past few weeks, his effort was fantastic.
It was heartening to see new players (but injured) Ross Warby acting as runner and Marcus Tippett running water.
Big thanks to Gavin Dore for umpiring game at short notice, after the VAFA could not provide any. He had umpired on Saturday as well.
SENIOR GAME was nip and tuck all day with Old scotch putting on a burst in final quarter to look like over running us. Then came a terrific fight back with wonderful goals to Griffiths, Froud (who took the mark of the year so far) and then a poster right on the siren from Griffo again to leave us a few points short. Shades of Sth Croydon in round 18 without the mud.
But it was a great workout in the heat against a quality Club and nobody got injured. My Best were (not in order) Ryan Mullett, Dan Papillo, Dan Mendes, Ash Froud, Mark Griffiths, Dean Kelly, Xavier Barry-Murphy and Cameron Dore.
Not playing in the Seniors were Robbie Ross, Michael Dell Aquila, Ross Warby, (all sick or injured) plus James McLure, Glenn Waters, Jamie Rushton
WE ARE BACK AT HAMPTON PARK on Saturday 26th vs Hampton Park
