Under 19s - Having a good squad of players to use allowed the coaches to give all the players the opportunity to show how they have progressed and how fit they are. Beaumaris are a strong team at this level and showed us how we need to develop our teamwork. However there were plenty of good passages of play and some good individual efforts on a big well presented ground.
Reserves - The coach commented on how much the team had improved on last year with a number of young players stepping up and a strong performance from some of the more mature boys. The game was close all day with barely a goal the difference so there was a real sense of competitiveness out there. The day was hot and fitness became a big factor for both sides. It was clear that fitness was an area where we can improve (training).
Seniors - With a host of new players made up of young players coming through and new recruits it took half a game to get any sort of teamwork happening. Beaumaris were a well oiled unit and played good team football. Once we got our game going in the second half we looked a much better team and much more like a team ready for Premier A. It was pleasing to see signs of the potential of some of the younger players once they got used to the pace of the game. No doubt the boys will be better for the run from both a fitness and a teamwork perspective. There is still plenty of work to do though and this will become even more evident when we play against Premier A grand finalists - Collegians on Saturday afternoon.
Then off to the 50 Year Function and Book Launch at the MCG members dining room - with over 350 people confirmed it will be a memorable night for the club.
