Further to our meeting onsite on Tuesday afternoon in relation to the condition of Greygums Oval.
As discussed, Council has engaged an expert soil and turf consultant to test the soil and grass onsite with a view to identifying the cause of the problem impacting on turf growth and to recommend a remediation strategy to restore a healthy turf cover. The analysis of samples taken on Tuesday are expected shortly.
In addition to the soil testing Council has sliced the ground (Wednesday) and amended the irrigation cycle in accordance with the recommendations of the consultant.
There are a number of bare areas of turf that will need to be replaced (2000sqm approximately). These areas will be replaced with maxi rolls of kikuyu. A meeting was held with a contractor yesterday and works will be undertaken on the weekend and are scheduled to be completed by Sunday lunchtime. Council staff will then manage the irrigation system to water in the new turf on Sunday night.
To enable the new turf to establish and the existing turf cover to spread Council will be closing the No. 1 ground until April 2, 2011. The No.2 ground will remain available for use.
