Newbridge still afloat
NEWBRIDGE football club isn't letting something like major flood damage get in its way of preparing for this season.
The club, in the Loddon Valley league, was one of the worst hit in last month's floods.
Goal posts were bent, benches ripped from the foundations and premiership flags scattered more than 100m downstream.
A clean-up team found the club scoreboard almost 150m away from its foundations.
Early estimates put the damage at $1.4 million.
Despite this, Newbridge Football and Netball Club president Ron Trimble said there was "no question we'll have a side running out in round one".
"It was reported that perhaps it might be difficult for us to get a side together and play, but in my mind that was never going to be the case," Trimble said.
Newbridge will play its home games on Backhaus Oval in Golden Square this season, but will still train on its home ground.
The club opens its campaign against Inglewood on April 2
