The Tweed Coast Tigers have started their 2011 campaign with a bang at Tigerland Pottsville Oval on Thursday Night with 16 previous and new local players attending what was meant to be just a social kick and BBQ.
With such encouraging numbers a social kick turned into a solid game of rec footy, with the new players striving to show their worth and impressing all with their energy and skill.
At this early stage to see such a good role up is very encouraging and we can only guess at the team list that will attend when training commences in earnest in February.
It will be interesting to see how the other teams fair for numbers this season with rumours circulating that Summerland League powerhouse and 12 times Premiers, Byron are on the verge of collapse after a farily avg 2010 season. This would be very disappointing for the League and we can only hope that Byron as a Club rally together and put a competitive team on the paddock this season. Other rumors afoot are that Nimbin have recruited a Cabarita contingent of ex rugby league players and could be a lot stronger this season, lets hope so.
Murwillumbah have been endeavouring to field a team and the Tigers Committee will be meeting with the Murwillumbah managment to see if we can provide extra players to the Bah side once our squad of 22 is named each Thursday night.
All in all a great early start to the season for the Tigers, Thursday nights were a big part of the success for the club in 2010 and that is set to roll on for 2011.
