Peter was 69 and recently retired. (Although semi retired is a more accurate description, as Peter did not really close the books totally on his many business interests.)
Peter, his wife Bev, and four children moved from Melbourne in the early 80’s and chose Broadbeach FC as their new football home. Subsequently, Peter had a long association with both Broadbeach Junior and Senior Football Clubs, and also with the Broadbeach Licensed Club.
Peter, a property developer, was very active in Gold Coast business and developments both locally and wider spread. Peter also maintained his strong interest in politics following his move to the Sunshine State, and was heavily involved within the managerial side of the Queensland Liberal Party right up until his death. His wife Bev, a Chemistry teacher, following her move north with Peter and their family, resumed her teaching career at Somerset College and retired as long serving Deputy Principal at the end of 2009.
With son Jeff playing at Broadbeach through the junior ranks, Peter was heavily involved with the Junior Club, and was a strong contributor both socially and managerially. Strong friendships were forged with many families through this time, but none stronger than with the Wilkinson’s and the Tiffin’s. Many ‘coldies’ were shared through this era also.
However, Peter is probably best remembered for being the steering strength behind the Senior Club’s first A grade premiership in 1987. He was Club President and began a process of remodelling the culture of the Club. The inaugural premiership success in 1987 was in no small way due to the strength of leadership, managerial style and business-like approach of Peter Gallus. A football club’s success, whilst measured on the field, is unquestionably driven by vision and commitment off the field and Peter, as Club President, had reason to be very proud of the pivotal role he played in the ’87 success and the club owes him a debt.
Peter went on to serve for four years as a Director of the Broadbeach Licensed Club and again made an outstanding commitment and business-like contribution.
Following the funeral at Trinity Anglican Church at Robina, on Friday December 3rd, family and close friends celebrated Peter’s life and achievements at the Broadbeach Football Club.
A devoted family man, Peter is survived by his wife Bev and four children (and numerous grand children). Our thoughts and prayers are with them all at this difficult time, especially his wife Bev.
