With such a young talented squad at the disposal of senior coach Russell Evans, recruiting for the 2011 season did not hold the importance that it did 12 months ago when the club recruited heavily from country Victoria.
But anyone who watched the Hornets last year would know too well how important a key forward is to the success of the team in 2011.With up and coming Key forwards like Adam Hughes and Declan Bevan, the Hornets were in search of an experienced big forward who could assist in the development of not only Adam and Declan but to assist in providing the club another quality experienced bigman.
So although the recruiting has not been as critical as in 2010, the club is pleased to announce that Sth Barwon Full Forward Sam Stavenuiter will take up the role in the goal square but he also is a terrific Ruckman.he will be joined by two other Sth Barwon premiership players in Mitch McKee and Brandon Backwell.
McKee is a half forward and a a classy left footer who knows where the goals are and kicked a number of bags of 6 last year. Backwell is a versitile utility and can play in a number of roles either up back or through the mid field.
The club is also delighted to announce the signing of Brisbane Lions player Amon Buchanan's two brothers, Micah and Callum. Micah is a quality mid fielder who was recruited to take the place of sam carpenter who will be sadly missed after deciding to return to Victoria. Callum is a young player with huge potential and both boys are looking forward to moving to Brisbane to be closer to brother Amon.
Withe the loss of Carpenter, Tighe, Carroll, Aalbers and Kiem for the 2011 season, we are delighted that we have added some quality players to our list to cover the loss of these players mentioned. We believe that we are now in a stronger position because we have not only recruited to fill deficiencies but have a terrific young group that will be one year older, stronger and fitter once the 2011 season kicks off.
