Magpies tame the Tigers.
Last weekend had us travel down to Gosford for our round eight clash against the Tigers confident of getting back on track and putting a couple of wins together.
Unfortunately the day didn't start well for us as the 18's, who are struggling for numbers, were outclassed by a strong Tigers outfit. The boys tried hard but being down on numbers, were never a match for the Tigers. Michael Barrie, Logan Mitch, Hughesy and Pisani all had strong games.
The First Division match was a much more evenly contested affair. Our slow starts have been an issue for us but we were in it from the first bounce and were never headed. The boys led well into space on the small Adcock Park ground and there were some great passages of play, our structure and skills a vast improvement on previous encounters. It was a great team effort where everyone contributed. Coming back from injury both Boylan and Frewin had strong games. Fletch was awarded the mug his all round consistent game.
This was the game that we had been eagerly awaiting. A chance to seek revenge on our first round loss to the Tigers, to post our first win of the season and also move off the bottom of the ladder. We have come close to winning on a number of occasions throughout the season but have not been able to get over the line and following on from our performance against the Panthers last week, we knew we had the game and confidence to take it right up to the Tigers.
The rain made the conditions greasy but there were still some excellent skills being exhibited. It was a tight first quarter but a six goal second quarter set the platform for a victory. In the slippery conditions goals were hard to come by after the main break but our intensity and will to win was superior and we were able to tame the Tigers and record a long overdue victory. Scott Tasker was a shining light for us in defence and Nick Greentree amazes every week with his fitness, athleticism and skills. Jon Koop-Folkes' comeback game after injuring his shoulder in last month's rep game was impressive, and his dazzling goals and spectacular marking was a highlight. Jade Matthison has been the big improver in recent weeks, and had another outstanding game for us kicking three goals and was duly awarded this week's mug.
Now that we have the monkey off our back, this weeks clash against Warners Bay at home should be a cracker.
