The Changing Face and Faces of the Werribee Football Club
The Werribee Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Wade Chapman as Midfield and Senior Assistant Coach and Chris Gilham as Reserves Coach for 2011.
Wade will be a new face to the club having played 51 games with the Sydney Swans including the 1996 Grand Final then moving to Port Power in 2000. Most recently he has been a premiership coach and player at the Drysdale Football Club in the strong Bellarine League where he was the 2010 Coach of the Year.
Paul Satterley was keen to get Wade soon after he was appointed senior coach “ Wade brings a number of things to the club. AFL experience, success as a player and a coach and the football knowledge he has garnered under coaches like Ron Barassi, Mark Williams, Rodney Eade and a former Werribee player and coach in Damien Drum will be of enormous benefit to everyone”.
Like Paul Satterley, Wade sees this as a great opportunity “ I can see tremendous potential at the Werribee Football Club with its young list. Working with the likes of Dom Gleeson, Robbie Castello and Will Martiniello and the emerging midfielders is really exciting. We need to set new standards to match it with the best and I am confident that can be achieved”.
Chris Gilham has accepted the role of Reserves coach and after the success of 2010 that is a very big role. The reserves made it to a preliminary final but fell just short of Box Hill Hawks the eventual premiers. In 2010 Chris was worked in the Tigers Academy program with Paul Satterley and was an assistant coach.
Werribee CEO Mark Penaluna sees both appointments as very positive for the club “ Chris has shown everyone at the club his qualities both as a player and now as a member of the coaching staff. His background at Westbourne Grammar and his work last year with the new players was outstanding. He has coached a premiership team (Werribee Centrals) so we believe he will get the best out of our young players”.
“Wade Chapman is keen, enthusiastic, respected and has incredible experience as both a player and coach the club is delighted to have him at Avalon Airport Oval. He will be a great asset to the Werribee Football Club”.
