The list includes a who’s who of our 2010 B
& F night with 10 of our top 11 players signing on the dotted line and full
of expectation with the changes that are in store for 2011. (The 11th
has been indulging in an overseas vacation and is set to sign later this week). It is hard to believe that players of the ilk
of Derrick, Searle, Quick, T. Rolfe, Fife, Russell, Stewart, Dienjes, Cook and
A.Rolfe could not be more excited about a season of football than they are about
2011 at Broadbeach.
The appointment of Matt Angus as the new
coach; of Gary Fox as the new fitness coach; the support team that is being
assembled; a serious and committed change of culture; a few key recruits and a
commitment to a massive pre-season are all reasons why the elite group above
has re-committed to the Cats in 2011.
Add to the list above some of the best junior
players from the under 16 and under 18 ranks in Queensland and an outstanding
bunch of younger players with senior experience including McKenzie, Bower,
Robertson, J. Rolfe & Christie and you just know that there are some
seriously good times ahead for Broadbeach.
The introduction of the AFL Northern League
has created a significant level of interest from interstate players who see the
competition as being a ‘back door’ to potential AFL consideration. In that context, more signings are expected this week whilst
the Football Committee remains coy about a couple more key recruits. “We would
love to add a couple of key positional players to our group and we are in
serious discussions with a few potential recruits -we’ll have to see how it
pans out”, said Football Committee head Geoff Bower.
Change is a wonderful thing. Some resist it
and nothing happens. Others grasp it and look at new opportunities. There is no
doubt that we are in the latter group and that season 2011 will be a season to
remember!
